“Optical Computing and Interconnections”
by B. Keith Jenkins
October 1985
This report describes research in digital optical computing and optical interconnections. It assesses the current state-of-the-art, discusses future prospects and worthwhile directions, and identifies areas that need further research in order to make digital optical computing feasible. Digital optical computing systems are compared to electronic systems, acousto-optics and integrated optics. Optical fixed and reconfigurable interconnections are considered for use in optical computers and electronic computers.
